NICER - Networked Infrastructureless Cooperation for Emergency Response

NICER is a new joint project aimed at investigating how information and communication technology can be used to connect people in order to enable cooperation in a catastrophic scenario. Three research topics are addressed: (1) establishing autonomous, decentralized, and robust communication groups, (2) creating communication bridges between these groups, and (3) enabling the cooperation with services and applications using the communication network. Our part in the project will be to investigate shared world models to support cooperation in distributed teams composed of humans and robots.

The project is founded with 4.5 mio. Euro by LOEWE (Landes-Offensive zur Entwicklung Wissenschaftlich-ökonomischer Exzellenz) from the Hessen State Ministry of Higher Education, Research and the Arts. NICER will start on 01/01/2015 in cooperation with 9 research groups from the TU Darmstadt and 1 research group from the Philipps-Universität Marburg.
