Travel Information

The central campus of the University of Kassel is located at "Holländischer Platz" at the northern edge of the city center.

Please notice:

Because of construction work, the tram on the city hall side (city hall in the directon "Am Stern") will not pass the "Königsstraße" (the main pedestrian zone) between six o'clock in the morning and five o'clock in the afternoon. During that time, the trams are taking the way over tram stop "Ständeplatz".
Before 6 am and after 5 pm, the trams run normally.

On the Opernplatz side (direction from tram stop "Am Stern"
to the city hall), the trams run normally.

By plane

The nearest airports are Frankfurt am Main, Hannover and Paderborn Lippstadt. Kassel can also be conveniently reached from Hamburg and Berlin

From Frankfurt Airport, there is a direct train connection to Kassel. For information about train connections and tickets see https://www.frankfurt-airport.com/en. It takes about 90 minutes by InterCity Express (ICE) trains and about 120 minutes by local trains.

From Hannover airport (https://www.hannover-airport.de/en), Hamburg airport (https://www.hamburg-airport.de/en) or Paderborn Lippstadt airport (https://www.airport-pad.com/en) shuttle busses take you to the respective train stations within 20-25 minutes. ICE trains to Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe from Hamburg take about 140 minutes, from Hannover about 50 minutes and regional trains/Intercity trains from Paderborn about 60 minutes.

By train/public transport

The long distance trains (InterCityExpress/ICE), intercity trains (IC) and some regional trains arrive at and depart from train station Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe.

From the train station Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe:

The University of Kassel, Holländischer Platz, can be reached conveniently by tram or bus.

Exit tram stop Holländischer Platz/Universität": Tram line 1 (destination Holländische Straße/Vellmar“) or bus line 52 (destination „Sandershausen") and 100 (destination „Calden-Flughafen").

Exit tram stops „Katzensprung/Universität" or „Weserspitze": Tram line 3 (destination „Ihringshäuser Strasse“) and tram line 7 (destination „Wolfsanger").

 

From the city center of Kassel (tram stops „Rathaus", „Friedrichsplatz" or „Königsplatz"):

Tram lines 1 and 3 pass directly the city center of Kassel.

Exit tram stop Holländischer Platz/Universität": Tram line 5 (destination Holländische Straße“) or regio tram RT1 and RT4 (destination Holländische Straße“).

Exit tram stops „Katzensprung/Universität" or „Weserspitze": Tram line 6 (destination „Ihringshäuser Strasse“).

By car

Around the campus Holländischer Platz there are only a very few parking spaces in the surrounding streets. All parking spaces are chargeable.

A 7: Hamburg – Kassel – Frankfurt am Main or Wuerzburg/Muenchen
A 44: Koeln/Dortmund – Kassel – Erfurt
A 49: Kassel – Marburg/Gießen – Frankfurt am Main

From the A7: Exit the motorway at „Kassel-Ost“ (Kassel East) and follow the route B7 in the direction towards Kassel centre. At the crossing/tram stop „Katzensprung“ please follow the signs „Universität Kassel" or turn right into „Weserstraße“. At the next traffic light turn left (uphill) into „Ysenburgstraße“. At the crossing „Ysenburgstraße” and “Mönchebergstraße“, you can continue straight ahead or turn left into "Möncheberstraße". 

From the A44/49: Exit the motorway at „Kassel-Auestadion“ and follow the B3 crossing the city centre (about 5km). At the crossing/tram stop „Katzensprung“ please follow the signs „Universität Kassel" or continue straight ahead. At the tram stop „Weserspitze“ leave the B3 and turn left (uphill) into „Ysenburgstraße“. At the crossing „Ysenburgstraße” and „Mönchebergstraße“, you can continue straight ahead or turn left into "Möncheberstraße".
