New INCHER research project investigates higher education accreditation and evaluation processes

A new 3.5-year research project at INCHER-Kassel aims at closely examining internal and external procedures of quality assurance in higher education and their interrelation.

Although higher education courses are accredited for over 14 years and universities for about four years and both evaluated for much longer, yet little little knowledge exists about the relationship between external and internal quality assurance at German universities  There is no reliable information if and how quality assurance of teaching and learning  produces innovations: neither in terms of quality nor with regard to internal university and external control of teaching and learning.

The new INCHER project "higher education
Quality assurance through accreditation and evaluation" aims at closely examining internal and external procedures of quality assurance in higher education and their interrelation by in-depths analysis of a broad range of evaluation and accreditaion activities and procedures and the groups involved in the processes.

The central theoretical component of the research is the legitimacy of the process, i.e., it is examined, who is involved in the process, when procedures are perceived by the actors as legitimate, and how procedures in the higher education context are accepted as legitimate yb the actors.
