When universities and companies cooperate in order to generate innovation by combining their scientific, technological and economic skills to, they often do this at a local or regional level. The proximity of the partners in a spatial as well as in a thematic sense makes it easier to establish contacts and transfer know-how and experience. The aim of the REGIO project of INCHER-Kassel is first to find out how regional and thematic proximity influences the probability of the realization of innovation clusters. Second we intend to identify the relevant factors for the success of such clusters. As part of the research methods we will develop innovative bibliometric key figures and test early detection algorithms in cooperation with partners from computer science and library science.
