Information for Authors

File Format
If possible, please hand in your text in one file as a PDF document. The file should not contain any backup agreements. Please see to it that the fonts are embedded in the document.

Book Cover
The book cover will be created by our designer. The authors can make suggestions of their own. They may also add an abstract of the book to the back cover (800 to 1200 characters incl. spaces).

Book Formats and Fonts
Book sizes are DIN A5, 17 x 24, in justified exceptional cases the book size may also be DIN A4. Normally your file is formatted in DIN A4. Even if the format of the printed book will be smaller, the file can be in DIN A4. It will be scaled in the printing shop, provided that your font size is big enough.

Font Sizes
File size DIN A4 to book size 17 x 24
standard text in a minimum font size of 12 points, charts and tables in 10 points

File size in DIN A4 to book size DIN A5
standard text in a minimum font size of 13 points, charts and tables in 11 points

If you format your file directly in the format of the printed book, the fonts have to be proportionately smaller.

Title and Imprint
Both title and imprint are subject to the guidelines of our publishing house and are designed by us. If the publication is part of a series, the series front page will be integrated in the preliminaries.

ments, foreword or content)

(e.g. dedication, acknowledge-
ments, foreword or content)

Thus your text will always begin on a page with an odd number. It should not contain more than two different numerations (e.g. Roman and Arabic).

The page numbers are either centred or aligned on the margin. If you decide to align the numbers on the margin, please keep in mind that the pages of your publication are opposing, i.e. page numbers on odd pages are aligned on the right margin and those on even pages are aligned on the left.

The text of the publication will be justified. In order to avoid blanks in the lines, the author may add hyphens (shortcut: ctrl and -).

When adjusting the margins, please keep in mind that the print space will be shifted a bit inwards because of the binding process. Therefore, the inner margin should be broader than the outer one. This can either be achieved by a gutter (left example) or different margins (right example).

You may add a graph to your Word document by clicking on Insert/Picture/From File. If you add a graph by clicking on Copy and Paste, problems may occur during the printing process. The resolution of illustrations like photos and drawings has to be at least 300 dpi. Graphs and line drawings require a resolution of at least 600 dpi.

Converting to PDF
The PDF document should be created on the same computer where you have created the original file. Word files in particular can look slightly or even drastically different when transferred to another computer. If possible, the PDF document should be created with a PostScript file. In order to make sure that special characters are displayed correctly, you have to embed all fonts by converting into PDF.

If you need general help with the settings of Acrobat Distiller, we will send you a file with information on that topic. There are other good programs for free in the www to create PDF. You can also hand in your document as a PostScript file. The following pages offer information about PostScript files:

Please check if you have the copyrights for all illustrations and fonts that are contained in your manuscript. Generally, fonts which are not installed by default are subject to licence conditions. The publishing house does not assume any liability for copyright infringements by the authors or editors.
