Decent Work Webportal

The DWWP is a platform supplying information about activities and publications related to the Decent Work Agenda.

The DWWP provides information for researchers, students and policy makers seeking to contribute to the fulfillment of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals with a special focus on Goal 1, Target 2: “Achieve full and productive employment and decent work for all, including women and young people”.

Toward that end, the aim of the DWWP is to transfer knowledge on improving work and income opportunities in rural and urban regions against the background of globalization, climate change and urbanization.

The DWWP systematically makes available all relevant research in the field and will also feature a news section with updates on decent work related press coverage, upcoming conferences, and releases of new studies.

Moreover, an expert network is being established and advertised on the website. Experts are invited by academic institutions and civil society organizations to provide technical input on development and decent work.

One of the core elements of the website is a keyword database for development and decent work. This database enables researchers as well as the interested public to access academic articles, statistics, and working-papers on specific sub-topics related to the general topic.

The DWWP was developed by the International Center for Development and Decent Work (ICDD) of the University of Kassel, which is a global think tank network contributing to the fight against global hunger and poverty through research and education. Through the DWWP, the ICDD aims to enhance knowledge transfer relating to development and the Decent Work Agenda, including information beyond the work of the ICDD.

Creating a network

The International Center for Development and Decent Work (ICDD) of the University of Kassel seeks to combat hunger and poverty through research and education concerning the topic “productive full employment and humane work for everybody” (MDG 1, part 2).

More than one million people in rural areas of developing countries live without food security and work under inhumane conditions. By combining social sciences and agricultural sciences, the ICDD focuses on three major issues: possibilities to increase the value creation in rural areas, adequate instruments to enforce humane work conditions, and strategies to enable political participation.

The core of the project is expert teaching at seven universities on four different continents. In addition, the ICDD will offer education and a Decent Work Portal created in cooperation with the International Labour Organisation.
