event number | FB06.097
supervision | Prof. Dr.-Ing. Julian Lienhard
research associate | M. Sc. Hilke Manot
external supervision | Aron Erdmann Schunn | Philipp von Seeger | Barbara Beetz | Elisa Berker

The seminar aims to develop and elaborate a new interpretation of already known methods and construction methods in earth building by analysing and transforming them. The focus is on dealing with constructive aspects, taking into account new requirements and production processes with a corresponding architectural and design claim. The examination of traditional, historical and modern references serves as an orientation and basis for formulating own questions and solution strategies for concept development.

The compact week also includes a two-day workshop focussing on earth building. In addition to the examination and assessment of the participants' own clay samples and the implementation of recognised preparation options and test methods, the focus is on gaining direct knowledge through the application of various current clay building techniques. The Kassel-based company ErdHandwerk, supported by external experts, is involved in the realisation of the course. Participation in the workshop is strongly recommended for a sound understanding of the material.
