Majdi Gouja is an Agricultural Economist. He started his higher education at the ‘Institut National de Nutrition’ in Tunis (Tunisia) bevor obtaining a scholarship for a Degree programme in Food Sciences and Technologies at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and Technische Universität Berlin (both Germany) and receiving a Diploma in Engineering. For many years, he worked in the Agro-Food Sector in Tunisia and Morocco and conducted several project studies mainly in the field of Dairy Farming Systems. He was later licenced and worked as a consultant in the Agro-Food Business in Tunisia. After this practical experience, he returned to Berlin, where he joined a Postgraduate Study course on International Agrarian Development at the Faculty for Agriculture and Horticulture at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. In the subsequent years, he worked on his PhD in Resource Economics, focussing on institutional and ecological economics, at the same University. He completed his PhD in 2016. His research interests include policy analysis of Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs), institutional analysis of social-ecological-technical systems, environmental and social policy implementation in Tunisia post revolution, coastal policies and tourism development and their implications for coastal communities, and developing options for using treated wastewater in agriculture.
