Risk Assessment of Transgenically Disease Resistant Plants in the Environment. Concentration on Sclerotinia sclerotiorum on rape and other vegetable species and wild relatives of rape and on Puccinia coronata on forage grasses, mainly Lolium perenne.

May 1994 - Oct.1997

Collaboration with Drs. E. Gacek and J. Nadziak, Bakow, Poland on development and evaluation of cultivar and species mixtures for malting barley and animal feed production in Poland.  Research in collaboration with Dr. Thinlay in Bhutan on "Strategies for the management of rice blast (caused by Pyricularia grisea)". 
Work on the genetics of virulence of Erysiphe graminis f.sp. hordei to the durable Mlo-resistance in Barley.

Consultant for the International Rice Research Institute IPM Research Network, Los Banos, Philippines and FAO Intercountry Programme for Integrated Pest Control in Rice in South and Southeast Asia, Manila, Philippines. Development of learning tools for farmers’ field schools for training in plant pathology and gene deployment. Development of training materials on gene deployment for the control of diseases and insect pests of rice for the IPM Research Network.

Work on the IRRI - US Environmental Protection Agency project on global climate change: effects of elevated UV-B (290-320 nm) radiation on susceptibility of rice to Pyricularia grisea. 
Work on UN developmental project with Drs. C.C. Mundt and R.J. Nelson on strategies for the deployment of host resistance for the control of bacterial blight of rice caused by Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae in the Philippines and Indonesia.
