Location

Kassel is a lively city of about 200.000 inhabitants, located in the center of Germany, from where large and important cities such as Berlin, Hamburg or Frankfurt can easily be accessed.

Kassel is situated in the northern part of the federal state of Hesse, which has twelve state-run higher education institutions of highest standard. But the Hessen Universities are not only a challanging place for international students and scientists, they are also places that offer a diverse landscape and varied cultural opportunities which are an attraction to international guests.

The city is especially appealing during wintertime. Whether you like cross-country skiing, sledding, hiking, ice-skating or snowball fights, you will find countless possibilities of enjoying Kassel in the wintertime. In case you would rather prefer heat and water, the Kurhessen thermal spring offers various sauna landscapes and indoor pools.

Kassel offers a great cultural life, from hosting the "documenta", the biggest and most prestigious exhibition on modern art worldwide, to keeping the largest Rembrandt collection outside the Netherlands in Wilhelmshöhe Castle.

Furthermore, you may follow the paths of the Grimm Brothers - well-known for their famous fairy tales such as Snow White or Cinderella - and visit, for example, the Grimm Museum where many original documents of their work are exhibited.
