The main research topic of the department for Electromagnetic Theory is the theory and application of waves: acoustic, electromagnetic and elastic waves. We analyse and develop analytical and numerical methods for the computation of radiation, propagation, scattering and inverse scattering of these waves and use the resulting methods in non-destructive testing applications.
Important catchwords are: EFIT, a method for the simulation of the propagation of elastic waves in solids, based on the Finite Integration Technique and SAFT, the Synthetitic Aperture Focusing Technique, in various versions a solution to the linearised scattering problem, used for imaging of material defects with ultrasound and microwaves.
