Postdoctoral Research Assistant (EG 14 TV-H)

Full-time position, commencement of employment January 2016.  This is a fixed-term position within the DFG project “Techniken des Organic Computing für die Laufzeit-Selbst-Adaption ubiquitärer, multi-modaler Kontext- und Aktivitätserkennungssysteme” (Organic Computing Techniques for Run-Time Self-Adaptation of Multi-Modal Activity Recognition Systems) for two years with the possibility of extending the contract at the University of Kassel, Germany. The position also gives the opportunity for obtaining a habilitation, i.e. post-doctoral professorship qualification degree, § 65 HHG i.V.m. § 2 Abs. 1 Satz 2 WissZeitVG.


We are looking for a highly qualified researcher with strong interests in several of the following research areas: autonomic computing, organic computing, machine learning, pattern recognition, autonomous learning, collaborative learning, active learning, and realization of self-* properties (self-optimization, self-adaptation, self-healing etc.) in technical systems. Candidates are expected to contribute to several DFG (German Research Foundation) funded projects at the Intelligent Embedded Systems Group. The position also offers the opportunity for independent research and teaching as well as project management activities and team leadership in the field of autonomic and organic computing.


Completeted course of academic study (Master/Diploma degree) with a PhD degree in Computer Science or a closely related field is required.

Outstanding candidates should be motivated to work at the intersection of machine learning and technical computer science and will be expected to have a proven track record with strong publications in relevant areas as well as excellent organizational and coordination skills. Experience in applying for third-party funds is a plus.  The Intelligent Embedded Systems Group at the University of Kassel, Germany, is dedicated to teaching and research in the areas of autonomic and organic computing (AOC) and technical data analytics (TDA).
