Course: Materials Engineering 1

Lecturer

  • Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Benoit Merle
  • Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thomas Niendorf

Learning objectives

  • Students are taught to understand the basic concepts of materials science, especially the fundamental relationships between microstructure and properties.

  • They have become familiar with the different classes of materials, and can select materials based on application requirements and assess which parameters are relevant to fulfill simple specifications.

  • Students understand the role of materials in modern engineering. They are also sensitized to fundamental material-related aspects of sustainability.

Contents

  • Classes of materials (metals, polymers, ceramics)

  • Structure of the materials
