Workpackage 1 - Solar District Heating

There are three different methods of connecting solar thermal with district heating: centralised or de-centralised collector fields where heat is supplied into the network, and solar heating systems which reduce the load of a particular user (decentralised). Today, large solar plants are designed and controlled based on consultant’s knowledge and experience on district heating systems. There is a lack of knowledge about optimum sizes of solar collector fields, heat storage and heat pumps, component and system design, control strategies, integration of the complete energy plant(s) into the district heating system and related to stagnation problems.
