About the graduate school

The graduate school „biological clocks“ (or in short: „Clocks“) was founded under the direction of Prof. Stengl as part of the interdisciplinary phd program „Aufbau Graduiertenprogramme“ of the University of Kassel in 2017.

The consortium consists of groups from the biology, chemistry, physics and electrical engineering institutes. Separated into three main projects, the groups from biology and chemistry collect data about cellular clocks and timing of biological processes on different levels of complexity like neuronally controlled behavior, metabolic processes, development and cell proliferation. The diverse data sets are being analysed by the groups from the physics and electrical engineering institutes, broken down and system theoretically modeled. In addition, new technologies and tools are being developed to explore new experimental approaches.
