The aim of SEQUOIA is to develop a new silicon based technology platform for heterogeneous integration of novel III-V materials, namely quantum dot and quantum dash-based materials emitting in the 1.3 and 1.5 µm wavelength ranges. The superior properties of those innovative materials, like high thermal stability, high modulation bandwidth and broad band characteristics will be shown by the realization of optoelectronic integrated circuits (OEICs) for high capacitance optical transmitters with data rates of 400 GBit/s. Two integrated approaches will be considered: one based on high-speed direct modulation of multiple wavelength channels and one based on comb generation and subsequent wavelength selective modulation. Both utilizing the advanced optical properties of highly integrated silicon photonics.
