Decarbonisation of transport – interaction energy system - global to regional (DevKopSys2)

Robust pathways to achieve transport climate targets in interaction with the energy system - global to regional

The project analyses the feasibility of the climate targets in the transport sector in Germany with special consideration of the developments of global, European and national energy supply systems.

As Germany's national PtX supply is limited, PtX imports from Europe and especially from international advantaged regions are needed. These import options influence the development of the transport sector, which in turn impacts the energy supply system. In the previous project DeV-KopSys, countries with relevant PtX quantities were identified (see Figure 1). Based on this, the FG INES will model the national energy supply systems of the exporting nations to evaluate the PtX export potentials of these countries in the temporal development until 2050. In particular, the effect of the bandwidths of global PtX market price developments and global transformation scenarios as well as the implementation speed of the decarbonisation paths of the respective countries will be taken into account.

The import options are then integrated into the development of stochastically robust pathways for the European energy system. The European perspective focuses on the design of the European transport sector, the expansion of renewable energy generation, and the European electricity and H2/gas exchange. Based on the bandwidths of the European scenarios, implementation requirements are considered in more detailed regional electromobility scenarios - also with regard to grid expansion issues and land requirements.

For science communication, interactive global, European, and regional energy system, electricity and gas grid atlases will be produced in the project and the existing PtX atlas will be further developed.
