On September 1, Bernhard Siano celebrated his 40th anniversary with the University of Kassel.

His professional career at the University of Kassel began on September 1, 1986, with an apprenticeship as an electrical installer. After working as an energy systems electronics technician and subsequently completing his basic military service in the staff company at the Lüttich Barracks in Kassel, he graduated in 1994 from the Oskar-von-Miller School with a degree as a state-certified technician in electrical engineering, specializing in power electronics.

In the 1980s and 1990s, Bernhard made a significant contribution to the further development of wind energy technology. In the 2000s and 2010s, he devoted himself intensively to the further development and improvement of photovoltaic technology. Today, he is particularly active in the fields of electromobility and electric drives—with a special focus on applications in inland waterway vessels.

We are very pleased to have Bernhard as a colleague and congratulate the University of Kassel, and in particular Department 16—Electrical Engineering/Computer Science—on this highly dedicated, competent, and consistently collegial colleague.

His passion for technology, however, isn’t limited to his profession: Through the university sports program, he gladly accepts challenges to play badminton. There, as the infamous “Old Schmetterhand,” he ensures that international students in Kassel are fully “onboarded” not only athletically but also socially.

We wish Bernhard all the best on his 40th anniversary, continued joy in technology, sports, and collaboration—and, above all, the best of health for the years to come!
