This year's Weizenbaum conference, entitled ‘Empowering People in Online Spaces: Democracy and Wellbeing in Digital Societies’, aims to shed light on theoretical and empirical research approaches that deal with empowering people to act in online environments on a personal and collective level. The ultimate goal is to connect research that deals with the intersection of digital technologies, democratic participation and individual well-being.

The presentation by Konstantin Lackner, Viktoria Horn and Markus Uhlmann will look at the impact of recommendation systems on news consumption and present an alternative approach to navigating online news in a democracy-friendly and privacy-preserving way.
