Girls Go Informatics at ComTec

From April 15 to 18, 2019, the "Girls Go Informatics" workshop took place in the ComTec department. During this time, seven girls from the 10th grade onwards had a lot of fun learning the basics of computer science and learning how to program. All participants succeeded in implementing their first computer game, even if they had no previous knowledge of programming. During the workshop, the participants were able to gain an insight into a career as a computer scientist and into studying computer science. Many prejudices and fears in this regard were dispelled. The workshop was led by Bianca Untermann (Micromata GmbH) and Judith Heinisch (ComTec).

Not only was the feedback from the participants consistently positive, but Bianca Untermann and Judith Heinisch also expressed their motivation and enthusiasm to hold another workshop in the fall in order to motivate even more schoolgirls to take a closer look at computer science.

The workshop is a joint project of the Department of Electrical Engineering/Computer Science at the University of Kassel, MINT Werra-Meißner-Kreis e. V. and Micromata GmbH.
