Lecture: AI-supported safety for cycling

On March 16, 2026, Lars Mathuseck presented his current research at Sunway University under the title "Advancing Cyclist Safety through Cooperative Collision Avoidance Systems". The presentation highlighted how the combination of artificial intelligence and cooperative systems can revolutionize safety in urban areas.

Cycling is a key pillar of the UN's sustainability goals, but safety concerns prevent many people from making the switch. Lars Mathuseck demonstrated how the integration of V2X communication, high-precision localization and behaviour-based trajectory prediction can create an active safe space. One key aspect: by using drivers' behavioral data, positioning can be made much more precise - a decisive step towards making the goal of "Vision Zero" (zero traffic fatalities) a reality in urban mobility.
