Farewell to honorary professor Dr. Harald Bradke after 26 years of teaching

The Power Electronics department, formerly EVS (Electrical Energy Supply Systems), would like to express its sincere thanks to Mr. Bradke for his 26 years of teaching at the University of Kassel.

Combining engineering and economics, Mr. Bradke has focused in particular on systems analysis work in the fields of energy economics, climate policy, and rational energy use. In addition, he has also worked in areas such as the social and external costs of energy scenarios and the economic impact of energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources on employment, growth, energy prices, and international competitiveness. For many years, through his scientifically sound interdisciplinary approach, he and his team at the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research (ISI) in Karlsruhe have made extremely valuable contributions to understanding the interrelationships between energy, raw materials, the environment, and the economy. This commitment was recognized with his appointment as honorary professor at the University of Kassel. Due to his retirement, he has now unfortunately conducted his last examinations at the University of Kassel on October 10, 2025.

The courses “Energy Management Aspects of Energy Technology I and II” will be continued in the future by substitute professor Philipp Härtel. We are pleased that this very popular course will continue to be available to students.

We wish Mr. Bradke all the best for his retirement. As a small token of our appreciation, and in the hope that he will visit Kassel, we presented him with a “Kassel souvenir package,” i.e., a hiking map for North Hesse, as well as some themed provisions to keep him energized.
