PIONIERIN Camp Hildesheim

The Workshops

Workshop 1: Botany meets Microcontrollers – Your Code for Happy Plants!

We’ll start with a hands-on project: participants will develop their own smart watering system for houseplants using microcontrollers, sensors and plenty of creativity. They’ll also design their own 3D flowerpot and then print it out themselves. In the process, they’ll learn to programme in a fun way, analyse data and build a working system.
At the same time, they’ll gain insights into environmental computing – a field where computer science and sustainability come together to create real solutions to environmental challenges.

Workshop 2: Understanding Artificial Intelligence and Training Models Themselves

In the second part of the camp, participants delve into the world of artificial intelligence. Together, they explore what lies behind AI and how it influences our society. They learn the basics of machine learning whilst working on exciting use cases, for example from the fields of medicine and healthcare. They will also train their own models, gaining real insight into how modern AI systems work.

The camp will be accompanied by the Participatory IT Design research group who is conducting qualitative research as part of the PIONIERIN project. Further information on the camp and the PIONIERIN project can be found on the project website.
