Kassel University Sports visits the FISU World University Games 2025

Two days full of top sporting performances, international flair and unforgettable impressions: The General University Sports (AHS) Kassel team was a guest at the FISU World University Games in the Rhine-Ruhr region from July 21 to 22, 2025.

The major event, which took place from July 16 to 27 in Bochum, Duisburg, Essen, Mülheim an der Ruhr, Hagen and Berlin, brought together around 8,500 students and officials from over 100 nations. In a total of 18 sports - from athletics to taekwondo - 234 medal competitions were held; for the first time, 3×3 wheelchair basketball and other optional disciplines were included in the program.

The Kassel delegation experienced thrilling competitions: in Bochum, they were thrilled by exciting athletics duels, in Duisburg the sun and sand turned the beach volleyball stadium into a cauldron, and in Essen there was a panorama of taekwondo, gymnastics, table tennis, fencing and basketball. "The atmosphere was electrifying - team spirit, fairness and international cooperation could be felt everywhere," said the AHS team, summarizing their impressions.

The visit showed that sport connects people across borders: Young people from all over the world met as opponents on the pitch and said goodbye as friends. Kassel University Sports would like to thank all athletes, volunteers and organizers for this inspiring event and take the spirit of the FISU Games home with them - as an incentive to continue to live diversity, fair play and sustainability in our own sports offerings.
