Doctoral Studies

Experience Research

You are interested in doing a PhD with a environmental or sustainable context at the University of Kassel? Then you are welcome in our scientific community of the Graduate Center for Environmental Research and Education (GradZ).

Currently, the Graduate Center for Environmental Research and Education (GradZ) networked about 150 doctoral candidates with a theme focus on  environmentally relevant behaviour and ecological issues as well as to practice-oriented tasks geared towards sustaining natural resources for current and future generations. GradZ is not only a centre for many advanced-training opportunities and qualification schemes, but also a facility that promotes scientific exchange and interdisciplinary networks among PhD
candidates and master students.

The motto: “together rather than next to each other”.  Promoting shared knowledge and scientific exchange – that is what GradZ stands for.

Two doctoral programmes provide support for an excellent scientific career:

The “UmweltWissen” certificate for PhD candidates!

The "UmweltWissen" certificate offers Masters Students and PhD candidates the opportunity to expand their environmental knowledge. Thanks to the certificate, you have proof of your additional qualifications – a definite competitive advantage!

Please see our "Mehr Wissen lohnt sich!" Brochure (available in German only) for further information. Click here for registration.

Doctoral Studies at the University of Kassel

Your way through the jungle of information and support programs at the University of Kassel – for PhD candidates in environmental sciences

…”Sometimes it seems that cutting one’s way through the jungle is the first thing to do…” (“Der Weg zum Doktortitel”, Knigge-Illner 2002)

To find your way through the jungle of information and support programs at the University of Kassel, we have compiled a PDF guide: "Wege durch das Informations- und Förderlabyrinth der Universität Kassel – für Promovierende der Umweltwissenschaften" (available in German only) which provides an initial overview on topics such as funding, scholarships, trusts and networking opportunities. This guide is meant as a supplement to the existing "Ich will Promovieren – Anregungen" Brochure (available in German only) offered by the Office of Strategic Research Development and Support of Junior Scholars (EFN), and is geared towards PhD candidates in environmental sciences.
