Prof. Dr. Ulf Reips (Universität Konstanz) zum Thema Onlineforschung

16:00Uhr Campus Center, Hörsaal 3

Prof. Dr. Ulf-Dietrich Reips (Universität Konstanz) hält einen Vortrag mit dem Titel: "Methods of Internet-Based Research in Psychology: A Review"

Abstract:

In this talk I will provide an overview of challenges, methods, tools, and best practices in Internet-based data collection. Methodological challenges in data collection via the Internet include issues of design, technologies, security, sampling, recruitment, multiple submissions, measurement scales (e.g. visual analogue scales), response time measurement, dropout, and data quality. A number of online methods are presented and discussed that may provide solutions, along with tools from our iScience Server at https://iscience.eu. These are one-item-one-screen design, seriousness check, instruction manipulation and other attention checks, multiple site entry technique, subsampling technique, warm-up technique, and adapted types of measurement. Pitfalls and best practices are described then, especially regarding recruitment of participants, dropout and other non-response, browser technologies, and interaction between technology and psychological factors. Some widely used tools and practices like Amazon Mechanical Turk, the cognitive reflection test, and forced responding are critically reviewed.

My talk concludes with a discussion of important concepts and principles that have developed over more than 30 years and an outlook on future developments in the methodology of Internet-based research.
