The eight papers collected in this volume can be read independently of each other, but they exhibit numerous thematic overlaps and intersections and converge along the same methodological lines: they all analyze intuitions that appear in suggestive canonical works from the Spanish "Siglo de Oro" to the present, and intervene through them in a series of conceptual debates. Thus, they discuss the modernity defined by Don Quixote, the discrepancy and analogy between literary fiction and historical scholarship, the unique anti-skeptical background of Cervantes' realism, the possible compatibility of ethics and aesthetics in the realm of narrative, the crucial foundations for the interpretation of fictional works, and finally the correlation between personal identity and diegesis.
