Jeta Mulaj (Toronto Metropolitan University): Blood and Fire: Silvia Federici on the Crisis of Capitalism

In her lecture, Jeta Mulaj (Toronto Metropolitan University) will examine the analysis of crisis in Silvia Federici's philosophy. She will show that Federici's understanding of crisis contains two interrelated components: a historical approach and an understanding of crisis as a persistent phenomenon inherent to capitalist society. Mulaj shows why, according to Federici, crisis becomes a normal state exclusively in capitalist society. The rediscovery of Federici's understanding of the ongoing capitalist crisis highlights the need to advocate a radical transformation of the material conditions of our reproduction and to show the destructive consequences that the constant repetition of primitive accumulation means for humans and nature.
