Medieval reception in metal

Metal Mittelalter - Images of the Middle Ages play a central role in the history and present of heavy metal. This applies to the musical design as well as to the visual marketing and the self-image of the protagonists. The conference will take a look at the various facets and forms of medieval reception in heavy metal. Particular attention will be paid to the politicization and identity-political appropriation of the Middle Ages. This diverse knowledge potential is reflected in the interdisciplinary and trans-epochal orientation of the conference, which brings together experts from the fields of history, philology, religious studies and musicology.
