That women are affected differently by disasters than men is a commonplace that influences the way we think and act when dealing with natural hazards. Convinced that gendered representations not only document facts, but also cement inequalities, Kirsten Behr takes up lines of argument from feminist disaster research to analyze eight novels from the French-speaking Caribbean. She is convinced of the seminal contribution that women can make in the event of a disaster.
