To conduct empirical linguistic studies and psycholinguistic experiments and build a bridge between theory and practice, the Linguistics section of the English Department has a language laboratory at its disposal. In courses with a cognitive focus, the lab is used for students to get hands-on experience with experimental testing and processing aspects of linguistics as well as the statistical analysis of empirical data. The lab consists of four work places each of which is equipped with a computer and a response box as well as headphones and a microphone. Divider walls allow for parallel work and test procedures.
With the help of the experiment presentation software E-Prime, which offers extensive possibilities to design experiments, we conduct studies in various fields, e.g., in the areas of word-formation, the mental lexicon and language production. You can find more information about our studies in the lists of publications on our web pages.
