Notes and information: First state examination - oral and written examination in German

Dear German students in the L1, L2 and L3 teaching degree programs,

The following information will help you to plan and conduct your oral or written examination in German as part of the First State Examination.

The Hessian Teachers' Academy and its Kassel Examination Office can also provide you with important information: They are responsible for you and will conduct the First State Examination.

Note

The selection of examiners for the oral and written exams in German will take place via Moodle from 2025. Here you can find out which campaigns you can already register for. You will find the selection options in the corresponding Moodle course. The selection of examiners for the respective campaign begins one year in advance on December 1 (spring) and June 1 (fall).

Campaign:
-Fall 2025
-Spring 2026
-Fall 2026

Please refrain from contacting the examiners by email. Places are allocated exclusively via the Moodle courses provided. For problems with registration, please contact marius.schoelzel[at]uni-kassel[dot]de by email.

NEW from 2025:

Dear students,

the choice or assignment of examiners for the First State Examination for German will be made via a Moodle course from the fall 2025 campaign.

Those who have already been accepted for the campaign in fall 2025 and beyond will be transferred to the Moodle course. Please check independently whether you are already registered when the relevant campaign is activated.

Please note that, in the interests of fairness, you should deregister yourself as soon as you can foresee that you will not be able to take the exam as planned.

PROCESS of exam registration in the Moodle course:

The course for the oral exams is called "Anmeldung mündliche Examensprüfung Germanistik". The course for the written exam is called "Anmeldung schriftliche Examensprüfung Germanistik". Registration is independent and is possible without a dial-in key.

If you decide to take a written exam in German, choose from the available groups one examiner from the available groups.

For the oral exam you choose two persons: One one from the field of literature and one for the language section.

Once you have decided on an examination form and enrolled in the corresponding course, select the desired examination campaign. You will find the campaigns (spring and fall) consecutively and in ascending order in the Moodle courses. Please note that you can only be enrolled in one exam campaign at a time. If you want to postpone your exam or have to change campaigns for other reasons, please deregister from all other groups and exam campaigns first.

Examiners are selected using the group selection procedure. There are only a limited number of exam places per person; if your desired place is already taken, you can register with another person for whom there are still places available.

The examination topics will be discussed at a later date and in close consultation with the examiners. It will also be discussed in which part of the examination didactic components are included.

If all the places in a section are taken, wait a few days and try to register again. The number of places is regularly increased according to demand.

If you meet all the requirements for the exam, you are entitled to take the exam in the desired period, but the Institute of German Studies cannot guarantee you your desired examiner.

If you have any questions, please contact your mentor.
