Seminar | Comics, History and Memory: Analytical and Creative Possibilities
Abstract This seminar addresses comics as a cultural object with documentary and narrative potential for the construction and communication of historical knowledge, as well as a valuable tool in the processes of social memory building. The course will explore the history of this art form/medium through the analysis of specific examples from different contexts and eras, fostering an understanding of its main concepts and methodologies. The course is designed as an analytical-creative laboratory, as it will not only study various comics as sources of information, knowledge, and entertainment, but will also include practical exercises in creating comics with historical content and/or related to social memory.
The course will be developed using the Block Seminar methodology. Intensive sessions will be held in which: 1) students will discuss readings and specialized materials that they must prepare beforehand; 2) Practical exercises in comic analysis and creation will be conducted; and 3) ongoing support and feedback will be provided for student projects.
