Madang Dialogue by Mi You: Public presentation at the Total Art Museum in Seoul
Madang Dialogue is project of Gwangju Biennale at the 30th anniversary of the groundbreaking biennale. Throughout the year, curators who have been associated with Gwangju Biennale enter into dialogues with pratitioners to offer critical reflections on the Biennale.
This Madang Dialogue by Mi You will center on David Teh’s project RETURNS at the 12th Gwangju Biennale in 2018. Based on extensive research on the archive of Gwangju Biennale, RETURNS offered a conducive site to reflect on the biennale’s history, its place in the post-cold war Asia and reveals the (un)consciousness of the self-historicization of artists and curators of the early editions. These reflections offer clues to speculate on the future of biennales in general in an increasingly multipolar world. Following a closed-door workshop at Gwangju Biennale, Mi You will make a public presentation at 14:00, 11 Septemer, 2024, at the Total Art Museum in Seoul.
David Teh is a writer, curator and Associate Professor at the National University of Singapore.
