International Relations with a focus on Latin America

Global crises such as the energy, climate, biodiversity, or food crises cannot be explained, understood, or resolved at the level of nation-states and -societies. Instead, a transnational analytical perspective is needed to analyze and understand the global interdependencies that underlie these crises. The Department of International Relations with a focus on Latin America addresses these interdependencies in the areas of commodities, environment, energy, development, and democracy. The main topics of the department in research and teaching are socio-ecological transformation from a global perspective, conflicts over land and mining, sustainable development, social change in rural areas, transformation of democracy, state and society in Latin America, and social movements and protests.
