Five days after the Bundestag elections, the exploratory talks between the CDU/CSU and SPD begin today, Friday. The fact that the past few days have not been characterized by attempts at rapprochement, but rather by disputes over electoral law and a small request from the CDU/CSU, raises fears that the two parties have not yet recognized the seriousness of the situation. After all, the problems and challenges facing the new government could not be greater.
