In his doctoral thesis on the subject of 'Kinematic and dynamic analysis of the swim start from the starting block with special consideration of the immersion and transition phase', Sebastian Fischer is taking an in-depth look at the swim start. He was able to work closely with the German Swimming Association (Deutscher Schwimm-Verband e.V.) to gain his findings. As a result, he was able to test the elite of German swimming in their start behavior.

The most common start variants are the grab start or the track start. In the latter case, a distinction is also made between front-weighted and rear-weighted track starts (track start with the weight on the front or rear leg). The tests were carried out with the OSB 9 starting block. In view of the modifications to the new OSB 11 starting block, as currently used at the Olympics, it is necessary to further examine how the starting behaviour changes and how it can be optimized.

In the disputation on Thursday, July 26, Sebastian Fischer presented his interesting findings in an impressive manner and was rewarded with a very good grade by the examination board.
