The PC pool as a location for literature management & knowledge organization

Five modern PC workstations have been available to IfSS students for exactly one year now. Since then, our PC pool has enjoyed regular use and popularity. The pool room also offers an editing station PC and a Smartboard. Both technologies can be used in the context of subject-specific and didactic seminars in consultation with the respective seminar leaders. In addition to the workstations, there is also an integrated copying station with a print function for the PCs.

For two weeks now, a new program for literature management and knowledge organization (Citavi) can be used at the PC workstations. Since 98% of the students of the course Fundamentals and Methods of Sports Science Work consider this program to be a help in dealing with citations and bibliographies and just as many would like to continue using this program, here is a brief introduction. Citavi gives you access to top-class databases and catalogs (over 4000 sources worldwide), whose special search options you can use in your research. The sport-relevant databases, e.g. PubMed, web of science, SPORTDiscus, SpoLit etc. as well as the world's largest online catalog WorldCat are already preconfigured on the pool computers for your search. Of course, Citavi is also able to search in catalogs of national libraries, large library networks and university and institute libraries (University of Kassel Library already set up) and output location and lending information. Citavi is also able to automatically record titles (via ISBN) or read title data from PDFs. Citavi doesn't just collect bibliographic data like other reference management systems. Citations without a source don't happen when you work with Citavi, because Citavi offers a publication assistant that not only provides you with the appropriate citation in dvs style, but also automatically creates the corresponding bibliography. You can save literal and indirect citations, comments, summaries and your own thoughts in Citavi. This allows you to continuously expand your knowledge base ? for your current and future work.
