INCHER Colloquium 3. July 2024: Career choice motivations: Predictors of professional development, informants for programme marketing, and indicators for counselling needs!?

This presentation takes a closer look at motivations to choose particular careers and how such motivations are related to aspects of professional learning and development. This will be done mainly in the context of teacher education using the FIT-Choice framework. In addition, the presentation will discuss how empirical insights about career-choice motivations might be used for marketing efforts in higher education as well as as potential indicators to steer students into student counselling.

Michael Goller is a full professor of Vocational and Business Education at the University of Kassel in Germany. He studied Vocational and Business Education, Business Administration, Economics, Statistics and Organisational Psychology at the University of Jena (Germany) and the University of Kent at Canterbury (UK). After a short detour into market research, Michael completed his PhD at the University of Paderborn (Germany), for which he received the AERA (American Educational Research Association) Workplace Learning SIG dissertation award in 2018. After his PhD, he worked as an interim professor of Business Education at the University of Bamberg and as an interim professor of Empirical Methods in Educational Science at the University of Jena (both in Germany).
