MINISTRY OF SPACE BELGRADE

BELGRADE WATERFRONT: During our excursion to Belgrade we had a chance to hear from activists and architects that were directly involved into resistance to the large speculative development called Belgrade Waterfront. The initiative Ne Da(vi)mo Beograd (Don't let Belgrade drown) managed to organise protests with more than 20 000 people marching every week in protest to this Public Private Partnership urban development.

In NEW BELGRADE, learning about SOCIAL PROPERTY: With architectural historian and architect Jelica Jovanović, we had a chance to see how New Belgrade was developed and to learn about its particular architecture, urban planning, but also ownership and social structures.

LEARNING BY WALKING THROUGH BELGRADE: During our excursion we had a chance to discuss the theory of Commons with Iva Čukić and subsequently visit spaces where communing is practiced, such as the social and cultural centre Magacin. With architect Davor Ere we had a walk in which we learned how Belgrade was built, torn down and then built again in the succession of empires from Ottoman to Austro Hungarian and back all the way to its modern architecture with the emphasis on materiality of housing architecture of the Yugoslav period within the historical core of the city.
