Tree Facade

The DBU project "Baumfassade" deals with the design and construction basis of a new type of facade greening made of trees. The tree is activated as a self-supporting element and at the same time elastically coupled to the rigid building at a certain height. This elastic coupling prevents damage to both the tree and the building. To determine the stiffness of the construction, a static model of the tree and the coupling construction is created.
In addition to the mechanical properties of the green wood, the tree geometry is of central importance for the modelling, that is created parametrically. The static behaviour as well as the natural frequency are investigated based on different stages, from which construction-relevant components and mechanical properties for the coupling can be derived. Another central aspect of this research is the optimisation of the components regarding the tree mechanics and the material use of the coupling construction.
