MOLAB - Stadium of mobile architecture and construction processes
summer semester 2025 event number | FB06.517 supervision | Prof. Dr.-Ing. Julian Lienhard lecturer | Dipl.-Ing. Oliver Berger
The project focuses on the reconstruction of the Abbasid Stadium in Damascus. As a symbol of a new cultural beginning for Syria, a transformable stadium is to be created that can be used as a market (souq), concert stage, soccer and athletics arena in a variety of ways. The project combines adaptive architecture with innovative approaches to circular construction, using war debris as a resource.
Central design issues include not only the cultural, Urban Design and material aspects, but also the design of a suitable roof concept. The project examines how the stadium, which is traditionally closed off to the outside, can open up to the city in order to interact with its surroundings as a new cultural center and incorporate them into its structure. The aim is a building that serves both as a symbol of resilience and strengthens urban networking and identity.
