Curriculum Vitae  (Prof. Dr.-Ing. Julian Lienhard)

Julian Lienhard is a structural engineer and since 2019 head of the Institute for Structural Design (TWE) at the University of Kassel. His interest is in innovative and resource-efficient structures created at the intersection of research and development and practice.
In 2008, Julian co-founded the engineering and design practice studioLD now str.ucture GmbH. Previously, he worked as a Structural Engineer at Knippers- Helbig and SL-Rasch in Stuttgart.
In April 2014 Julian Lienhard completed his doctorate summa cum laude with his dissertation on bending-active structures at the Institute of Building Structures and Structural Design (itke), University of Stuttgart. As an author of the specialist book ‘Construction Manual for Polymers + Membranes’, he has been honoured by several awards during his academic career. Along with a number of different design studios, he is teaching the Principles of Form and Structure at the University of Stuttgart, the Technical University of Vienna and in 2016+2017 as a Visiting Professor at HCU Hamburg. His scientific interest in the principles of lightweight structures goes along with various realized experimental structures and prototypes along his academic and professional career. This forms the basis of his research and international structural engineering consultancy as a recognized specialist in lightweight and special structures.
