Reading and Book Discussion - FES Leipzig - Urban Conflicts: Radical Democracy in Architecture and Urban Planning

Location: Gohliser Schlösschen, Menckestraße 23, 04155 Leipzig

Who owns the city—and who gets to make decisions about it?

As housing becomes increasingly expensive, cities undergo transformation, and urban spaces are increasingly treated as investment opportunities, social insecurity is also on the rise. Gentrification, social segregation, and authoritarian security policies are shaping the urban landscape in many places. But what might a city look like that is instead guided by democracy and solidarity?

As part of our book discussion, we’ll talk with author Gabu Heindl about the arguments and analyses in her book. The discussion will be moderated by Holger Mann, a member of the German Bundestag. Together, we will explore the question of how urban policy and architecture can be shaped in times of democratic crisis to promote democracy, solidarity, and social participation.

The book discussion on October 27 at theGohliser Schlösschen will be led by architect and professor Gabu Heindl and Leipzig’s Member of the Bundestag, Holger Mann.

Admission is free.
