In this year's studio, we are addressing the topic of vacancy from the perspective of the "talents of vacant buildings". Students will examine existing buildings based on their spatial, structural and atmospheric qualities: air flow, light, shadow, volumetry, materials, sound environment, warmth, humidity as well as constructive and other elements. This investigation is visualized through experiments with model making, conceptual and technical drawings. There is also the opportunity to work with acoustic and haptic elements of the building material. The aim is to develop a possible (albeit provisional) programming of the selected building and/or a specific spatial configuration. The spatial program is understood as a negotiation process between the physical potential of the building and the testing of possible uses based on available data, assemblies with initiatives and ideas from the city administration. The students work both individually and in groups. The final projects include the investigation of the potential of the selected buildings - visually presented through drawings, diagrams, models or selected audio recordings - as well as the development of possible scenarios for their conversion.
