As a city and regional planner from Turkey, Gül Tuçaltan completed her PhD at the Department of Human Geography and Spatial Planning at Utrecht University in the field of urban governance and political ecology. Since January 2018, she has been working with the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions (SALAR) as National Project Coordinator and the Leader of the ‘Knowledge for Policy’ Component of the Resilience in Local Governance (RESLOG-Turkey) project. She also acts as a research consultant under the World Bank’s KNOMAD Working Group on Internal migration and Urbanization. Prior to her doctoral studies, she also worked in several professional and academic institutions such as Utrecht University, Darmstadt University of Technology, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Regional Environmental Center Turkey and Middle East Technical University. Alongside her professional work, she currently pursues her research and teaching activities as part of the Urban Morphosis Lab at the Darmstadt University of Technology, Germany. Her areas of interest in research, teaching and practice encompass policies, politics and governance of urban and infrastructural change; urban political ecology; movement of people and materials; urban social inclusion/exclusion processes; and localized alternative infrastructural technologies.
