Starting in October 2022, the German Research Foundation (DFG) will fund a new project at our Chair with a total sum of 274,110€ over a duration of three years. Under the title “The Role of Signals, Forgiveness, and Reputation for Cooperation (FORGIVE)” the project will investigate the role of forgiveness in human cooperation. It is built around a series of new variants of the infinitely repeated prisoner’s dilemma in which players can cheat and earn long lasting reputations. Using laboratory experiments, the researchers want to study the willingness to forgive after a subject has been cheated on and the strategic use of forgiveness when reputations can be built.
