New journal publication

The article “Digital M&A, digital innovation, and firm performance: an empirical investigation”, authored by André Hanelt, Sebastian Firk, Björn Hildebrandt and Lutz M. Kolbe was recently published in the renowned European Journal of Information Systems. The empirical study focuses on the question if and how traditional firms profit from acquiring digital companies.

Conference Contribution

The study "Who Needs a Chief Digital Officer? A Contingency Analysis of a Centralized Digital Transformation Responsibility" by Sebastian Firk, André Hanelt, Jana Oehmichen and Michael Wolff was accepted at the 82. Annual Conference of VHB, 2020 on the topic "Digital Transformation" in Frankfurt, Germany.

Successful PhD defense

DTM-member Schahin Tofangchi successfully completed his dissertation entitled "Towards a Theory for Designing Machine Learning Systems for Complex Decision Making Problems" at the University of Göttingen. Prof. Dr. André Hanelt served as a member of the board of examiners.

At this years‘ International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS) in Munich, Prof. Dr. André Hanelt received the Outstanding Associate Editor Award for his work in the conference’s theme track “Information Systems: The Heart of Innovation Ecosystems”.

Successful PhD defense

Prof. Dr. André Hanelt was a member of the board of examiners at the PhD defense of Daniel Leonhardt at the University of Göttingen. The thesis, entitled "Organizing for Digital Innovation - The Role of the IT Function", investigates how IT departments are affected by the diffusion of digital innovation as well as the structures and capabilities they need to support the digital transformation of their organizations.

Conceivable PhD topics include e. g. “Use of new technologies in the financial organization”, “potential and use cases for the use of Artificial Intelligence in the financial organization” or “the transformation of the financial organization driven by new technologies”.

Prof. Dr. André Hanelt is among the founding members of the new AIS (Association for Information Systems) Special Interest Group (SIG) named SIGDITE (Special Interest Group on Digital Innovation, Transformation, and Entrepreneurship).

Researchers interested in digital innovation, transformation and entrepreneurship are currently distributed across communities that focus on specific organizational challenges such as Adoption of digital technology, Sourcing, Organizational systems or Business Process and Services.

SIGDITE aims to bring together these researchers, providing a community to advance research in the creation and management of new digital infrastructures, products, new business models and organizational forms. By integrating related research across conferences and making the positioning of digital research more consistent, SIGDITE will also enable researchers to keep up with emerging research trends and establish opportunities for collaboration.
