Productivity measurement of service configurations in the telemedicine sector

The health system in Germany is challenged by demographic change and continuously increasing costs (among other factors). In its actual form, it is not sustainable. In this context, the telemedicine sector comes along with a wide range of opportunities through enhanced IT-enabled services. Still, it is of utmost importance to measure and improve the efficiency ofthese specific services.


Purpose / Goal

The joint research project EDiMed aims to develop an instrument which is capable of measuring telemedicine services in terms of efficiency. Thereby, typical characteristics in the telemedicine sector such as IT-enablement of services, (semi-) automation of processes and patient integration play a central role.. In order to get an overview of the state-of-the-art service offerings, services are observed and analyzed in detail. This project goal is performed in close collaboration with industry partners and should lead to process maps which serve as a starting point for innovative (re-) configurations and new service offerings. In this context, new business models as well as service provider models are to be elaborated.
