Economic Policy, Innovation and Entrepreneurship: Unit

The EPIE Research Group works on a spectrum of topics related to economic policy. Our research projects are mostly empirical in nature and focus on the fields of industrial dynamics, economics of science, entrepreneurship and innovation. They are based on a broad behavioral foundation encompassing insights from economic theory as well as the neighboring social sciences. Our general research objective is to gain new insights about innovative change in modern economies and to make them useful for practitioners. To this end we use both econometric and experimental approaches.

As part of the Economic Policy, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Group, the Environmental Policy Working Group uses behavioral and transdisciplinary approaches to study issues relevant to the achievement of environmental policy goals. Current projects focus on the reduction of (micro-) plastic pollution of inland waters as well as on rebound effects in firms.

Our research provides the foundation of our teaching activities. Our courses provide students with knowledge and skills for own research activities, but also prepare them for a career outside academia. Within the University of Kassel we are involved in a variety of collaborations. In particular, we closely interact with the International Center for Higher Education Research (INCHER Kassel).

We cooperate with a number of partners from international and German universities (among others, Stanford University (USA), Gothenburg University (S), HEC Paris (F), Utrecht University (NL), Hasselt University (B), Technische Universität Dresden, Universität Marburg) and are actively involved in the IIDEOS and MAGKS doctoral programs.
